Lounge on the Farm replaces Glasto on festival fans' radars

WITH Welsh hipsters Super Furry Animals as a headline act, Lounge on the Farm promises to leave more than a paw-print on music fans with its festival in Canterbury.

Co-organiser Matt Gough said the signing was entirely in keeping with the idea he hatched with others for a non-conformist musical feast.

He said: "They are completely non-conformist and that is what we want. The ethos of the Lounge is about creating an event. It's more than just the music."

Entertainment at Merton Farm will include hip-hop and MCing workshops hosted by Reward Projects and children's activities hosted by Canterbury Environment Centre.

Smaller, satellite festivals are attracting fans who previously might have crossed several counties to reach Glastonbury or Reading.

Matt said: "It's no longer about momentous journeys in camper vans to big festivals. This is about breaking that norm a bit."

Last year's 80 acts will be almost doubled but the Lounge crew are not looking to expand too far.

Matt said: "We'll wait and see what happens this year but we are getting to a level that is just right."

Kent Messenger Group is the official media partner for Lounge on the Farm 2007, which runs from July 13 to 15.
