Man arrested after police called to assault and criminal damage reports at Old City Bar in Oaten Hill, Canterbury

Drinkers were forced to restrain a man who allegedly hurled bags full of rubbish at pub windows and ripped the building's front door off its hinges.

Police were called to the Old City Bar in Oaten Hill, Canterbury, after reports that a man refused drink had gone berserk.

He reportedly slammed the front door before tearing it from its fittings. He is then said to have gone outside and thrown bags of rubbish at the windows, breaking three.

Drinkers from inside the pub eventually wrestled the man to the ground and held him there until police arrived.

Officers arrested a 29-year-old man from Canterbury on suspicion of criminal damage and assault following the incident at 8pm on Friday.

He has been bailed until August 7 while inquiries continue.
