More than 600 cyclists took part in the Pilgrims Hospice charity ride on Sunday between the hospices in Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet.

Among them was Kentish Gazette chief reporter Gerry Warren who said it was a fantastic event which offered a variety of cycling challenges.

The most demanding was the 75 mile tri-hospice ride but participants could also choose shorter routes, although the minimum distance was still 47 miles.

Gerry said: "I rode the route between Canterbury and Ashford over the Wye downs which was very scenic but also very hilly and quite challenging.

"But the organisation by the Hospice was excellent with the refreshment stops were manned by volunteers who provided sandwiches and drinks to keep us going."

Hospices regional fundraiser Deborah Kellond said she was delighted with the turn out of 604 entrants which was what she had hoped for.

She added: "It's too early how much we have raised but I am optimistic it will be a really good total."
