A ROBBERY victim was kicked in the head and face by two men who stole a wallet and other items from him.

Alan Parker suffered a fractured eye socket as well as extensive bruising as a result of the attack.

One man was never caught but police arrested Mark Wedgbury, 34, of no address, who appeared at Canterbury Crown Court and admitted robbing Mr Parker. He was jailed for four years.

Andrew Espley, prosecuting, said Mr Parker had walked over to a bonfire in Canterbury’s Westgate Gardens to see what was going on last May. He was punched or pushed by one of two men then repeatedly kicked when on the ground and robbed.

Oliver Saxby, for Wedgbury, said previous offences were mainly for dishonesty and the longest sentence served was 12 months.

“There is nothing approaching this violence,” said Mr Saxby.

Judge Adele Williams said: “This was an unpleasant attack in a public place where the defendant and another used violence of a high order kicking Mr Parker in the head.”
