It was revealed Charlie Reid, one of the twin brothers, is suffering from voice loss linked to a perforated eardrum.

They were due to perform on Sunday at 7.30pm.

A statement by the Marlowe Theatre reads: “It is with great regret that The Proclaimers have had to cancel their performance this weekend.

“Unfortunately, Charlie Reid has had voice loss linked to having a perforated eardrum.

“If you have booked tickets to this performance, you will have already been contacted by us.

“We are sorry that we aren’t able to welcome you to our theatre on this occasion and we appreciate your understanding.”

Andrew Morris wrote on Facebook: “Worst. News. Ever!!!

Christian Ball added: “This is a real shame but Charlie's health must come first. Wishing him a speedy recovery from the perforated eardrum.”

The Proclaimers have also been forced to cancel their performance the day before at Wickham Festival.

The pair are a Scottish music duo composed of brothers Charlie and Craig Reid.

They are best known for their songs I'm Gonna Be and Sunshine on Leith.

Their debut album This Is The Story and top three single Letter from America emerged 31 years ago.

A play and film, Sunshine on Leith, was inspired by them, and the movie was the fifth highest-grossing independent UK film of 2013.
