Homes Under the Hammer star Dion Dublin pays tribute to slimmer Dave Freeman

A supersize slimmer who shed a whopping 10 stone has reached the semi-final of a national weight-loss competition.

Dave Freeman and brother Mike’s incredible transformation is shown in these pictures, with the pair holding up the trousers they wore just 12 months earlier.

Between them the siblings lost an impressive 17 stone in 12 months.

Dave, who lives in Broad Oak and works at Canterbury Golf Club, tipped the scales at 22st 6lbs before deciding to do something about it.

“I was on the floor working on one of the machines at the golf club and I couldn’t get up,” he recalled.

“Kids were looking at me and I thought I must look so stupid, I really ought to do something here.”

The 58-year-old opted to ditch his diet of alcohol and regular takeaways and joined Slimming World.

With the group’s help, his weight has plummeted to an enviable 12st 3lbs.

His efforts have taken him all the way to the semi-finals of Slimming World’s Man of the Year 2016 competition.

He said: “I was a bit worried that I’d end up on a diet of just lettuce, so I couldn’t believe it when I joined Slimming World and my consultant explained that I could still eat burgers, chips, steaks and curries as long as I made a few healthy swaps in terms of the way I cooked and prepared them.”

The change has been miraculous for Dave, who says it has helped him turn a corner in his life – and even improved his golf swing.

He said: “I’ve got arthritis, but since I’ve lost the weight it is nowhere near as painful.

“I used to play golf for years and my weight was a hindrance, but now I can hit the ball to a reasonable standard again. That is one of my inspirations to keep going.”

Attending the awards, Dave met and was congratulated by former Coventry, Aston Villa and Leicester City star Dion Dublin.

Dublin, now a presenter of BBC1’s Homes Under the Hammer, said: “Health and fitness formed a huge part of my career as a footballer, so I know how much effort and dedication it takes to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“It was a pleasure to meet David and hear all about his weight loss. He’s taken a really big and important step – a step which a lot of men would find too daunting – I think many people would be guilty of thinking that going to a slimming club isn’t very macho.”
