Ramsgate driver in custody after period cottage in Preston Hill, Wingham, is hit by Land Rover

A man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car ploughed into a pretty, thatched cottage last night.

It happened at the bottom of Preston Hill in Wingham at around 11.15pm when the Land Rover smashed into lounge of the property.

No one is thought to have been hurt but the grade two listed home was badly damaged.

Police were called and arrested a 50-year-old man from Ramsgate for drink driving who was still in custody this morning.

The vehicle remains embedded in the home which has large cracks in the front wall and structural engineers are at the scene assessing the damage and safety of the property.
