Fallen trees have blocked roads and railway lines and a lorry has overturned as high winds batter Kent.

A yellow weather warning is in place as gusts of up to 65mph hit the county - with some train services brought to a halt.

Train operator Southeastern posted shortly before 3pm about the incident.

"Due to a tree blocking the railway at Chilham, services between Ashford and Ramsgate via Canterbury West are disrupted.

"Network Rail response staff are on their way to the area."

In an update shortly after 3.15pm, the firm said: "The line from Ashford towards Canterbury West is open so services can call normally to Ramsgate.

"The line towards London remains blocked with Network Rail staff still on-site.

"Trains from Ramsgate towards London will be diverted via Dover Priory."

A further update shortly before 4pm says the tree has been cleared from the line and it has reopened in both directions.
