A FRAIL pensioner was brutally kicked by a mental health patient who was receiving an “enhanced” care in the community package.

Hugh Bradley attacked his next-door neighbour, 76-year-old Mary Ashton, who is just 4ft 10in, after bursting into her home and knocking her to the floor.

He then kicked her repeatedly and threatened to kill her.

She still needs treatment for her injuries and is so traumatised by the assault she now does not go out.

Police arrested 50-year-old Bradley after the incident. At Canterbury Crown Court this week he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after pleading guilty to assaulting Mrs Ashton, causing actual bodily harm.

A spokesman for the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust said Bradley had been considered suitable for community care but a subsequent internal review of his case had been carried out following the incident.
