Woman approached by men in blue Peugeot on A28 Wincheap Road in Canterbury

Police have appealed for witnesses after two men tried to persuade a woman to get into their car.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was walking along the A28 in Wincheap at 3.15pm on Monday when a light blue Peugeot drove onto the pavement in front of her.

One man got out of the car and tried to convince her to get into the vehicle. The second man remained in the car during the incident.

It was only when the victim raised the alarm and shouted she was going for help that the pair left the scene in the car in the direction of Thanington.

The man who got out of the car was described as Middle Eastern, 5ft 9ins tall with a heavy build and wearing a black padded jacket, black polo shirt, black trainers and black jeans.

The second man, who remained in the car, was described as white, medium build and wore a black hooded top with a black t-shirt.

Both were described as being aged 30 to 40 years old and having foreign accents.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who might have witnessed the incident.

Detective Inspector Max Davidson said: "This is an unusual incident and we are keen to speak to anyone who might have witnessed it.

"We believe there were people nearby who saw and possibly heard the victim shouting.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident."
