Kent will select from a mix of youth and experience for the first of their two limited over pre-season friendlies against Surrey starting in Beckenham today (Wednesday).

The county will take a 13-man squad to their Worsley Bridge Road ground, where the derby action against the Browncaps is scheduled to start at 11am.

The hosts have already picked up two minor injury blows in their warm-up games to date and pacemen Robbie Joseph and Amjad Khan will not feature.

Joseph has a bruised heel and Khan suffered a mild hamstring strain while bowling four overs during last Friday's one-day win over Nottinghamshire.

Though all-rounders Ryan McLaren and Azhar Mahmood have arrived in the UK after fulfilling overseas commitments, neither will play against Surrey, while the likes of Sam Northeast and Charlie Hemphrey together with James Tredwell, are absent on duty for England Under-19s and the MCC respectively.

As a result, Kent's director of cricket Graham Ford has added Academy rookies Alex Blake, James Iles and Matthew Coles to the squad as cover, and also to give them some experience of mixing with the senior squad.

The two teams will clash again in Beckenham on Thursday and admission on both days is free of charge.

Kent squad to play Surrey: Key, Denly, van Jaarsveld, Walker, Stevens, Dexter, Jones, Dixey, Saggers, Cook, Blake, Iles, Coles.
