Big freeze puts rugby club game in doubt

Canterbury Rugby Club are hoping their chances of a home win over National League 3 South strugglers Havant won’t be put on ice because of this week’s big freeze.

The city club will leave a pitch inspection at Merton Lane as late as possible but with the forecasters promising more freezing temperatures, the prospects of Saturday’s game going ahead are uncertain.

The club have trained indoors this week at the University of Kent and coach Danny Vaughan expects that most of the squad that performed well against leaders Ealing will be all be available, although there are doubts about No.8 Benn Smith’s availability.

Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm.
