Canterbury got back to winning ways in National 2 South with a stylish win over Redruth, running in seven tries in a 46-22 victory.

The city club ran-riot in the final 20 minutes to break Cornish resistance and make it four wins in five games and claim fourth spot, nine points behind leaders Hartpury.

Canterbury opened up a 10-0 lead thanks to an Aiden Moss try after a Martyn Beaumont pass and Tom Best slotting the conversion and a penalty soon after.

However the Cornishmen replied as Chris Fuca broke off a driving maul to touch down, with Murray Westren comverting, and 10 minutes later the visitors were ahead when Greg Goodfellow collected a loose ball and burst away to touch down.

Canterbury re-took the lead five minutes before the break when Moss scored after a Beaumont kick over the top for a 15-12 lead, but Nick Simmons capitalised on a handling error seconds later to score, with Westren converting for a 19-15 lead.

It was the hosts who however went in ahead at the break after a frantic few minutes and several lead changes as Best kicked ahead for a lineout which was drive over with prop Matt Pinnick touching down to make it 22-19.

Westren’s penalty levelled the scores after the restart but the hosts’ pack began to stamp their authority with prop Alex-Wake Smith justifying his starting place.

Another driving maul produced a converted try for hooker Tom Rogers before two scores in the space of two minutes killed off the game 20 minutes from time.

Rogers got his second after another maul and when the visitors spilled the ball in midfield No8 Rob Lennox raced away for his side’s sixth try.

Replacement lock Richard Corr set up the final try, finished powerfully by Ricky Mackintosh.
