DEREK UNDERWOOD: world class performer in Kent's heyday

KENT legends Derek Underwood and Brian Luckhurst are set to grace the hallowed St Lawrence turf at Canterbury next month with a rare playing appearance in aid of charity.

The stars of the county’s highly successful 1970s side will play for an Old England XI against a team selected by this season’s club president and chairman of Shepherd Neame Bobby Neame.

Former Kent skipper Matthew Fleming will lead a president’s side that looks set to include Martin McCague, Richard Davis, Alan Wells and Alan Igglesden against an England all-stars team including Luckhurst, Underwood, Chris Cowdrey, Derek Randall and John Lever.

Entrance to the match on Sunday, September 14, will be free, though a £5 donation is preferred, with all proceeds going toward the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust.

The Trust is aiming to create a replica Spitfire to be placed permanently at the memorial site in Capel le Ferne near Folkestone.
