Golf club pipped in final

Canterbury lost an exciting Guilford Cup team knockout final against Royal Cinque Ports at Littlestone on Saturday.

Both teams collected six points apeice but the Deal club won on countback by virtue of holes won, with a one-hole advantage.

Having played every round away from home, they can be well pleased with their efforts in the competition

The windy conditions favoured the Cinque Ports team but City’s eight-man team put up a bold show.

The morning foursomes were shared 2-2, when Canterbury’s winning pairs were John Coupe and Mark Williams, and Richard Davies and Michael Bidwell.

The afternoon singles were also shared 4-4, with Canterbury wins for Richard Davies, John Coupe, Levi Johnson and Colin Gellatly.
