KENT re-started their first innings at 3.30pm after the loss of 43 overs on a rain-ruined opening day of their Frizzell Championship match with Surrey.

Heavy rain started at 11.49am and continued in bursts until 2.30pm and within an hour the mopping up operation had been completed.

The hosts resumed on 24 for one, having lost Ed Smith (0) in the fifth over of the innings, and reached 39 for one afyer 15 overs.

David Fulton was leading the way with 25 and Alex Loudon kept him company with an unbeaten 18.
