Surprise award for City boss

DAVE FAIRCLOUGH had the tables turned on him as Canterbury City marked a highly successful first season with their presentation evening at the Westgate Hall on Friday.

The first team boss spent much of his evening handing over prizes to others, but was genuinely surprised when he was presented with the Chairman’s Award, by Phil Knight.

Mr Knight said he was not normally in favour of such awards but felt Fairclough deserved recognition, not just for his efforts on the pitch, which were clearly evident from the team’s results, but also for all his work behind the scenes.

Midfielder Rob Gutsell was a popular winner of the Cyril Dunk Memorial Cup as first team players’ player, while striker Wayne Fittall was the supporters’ choice in a poll which attracted 250 votes
