Faversham Town go into their final pre-season friendly at Chatham Town on Saturday with manager Ray Turner expecting an improved performance following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Corinthian.

Turner admitted that the Lilywhites “got their backsides tanned a little bit” by the Southern Counties East outfit, adding: “The players got sucked into thinking it was going to be a nice little pre-season friendly so they weren’t quite up to speed and, credit to Corinthian, they made us pay.”

Wayne Wilson scored Faversham’s goal from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time after Corinthian had scored in each half.

Turner added: “We looked quite strong at the end and could have nicked another goal but there’s no point in sugar-coating it, it wasn’t one of our better performances.

“That said, playing Chatham will be much more like a Ryman League game and we have reminded the players in training this week how we set up and what our strengths are.

“The squad has been finalised for some time and we’ve got a decent bit of continuity from last season. The boys should all know what they’ve got to do and it’s just a question of going out there and executing it.”

Simon Overland returns in goal on Saturday after being unavailable for the Corinthian game but Michael Jenner, Rhys Lawson and Ashley Brown are all on holiday.
