CANTERBURY came from behind to beat Olton and West Warwicks 2-1 in the Slazenger English Women's League at Polo Farm on Saturday.

The win, their third in as many starts, sees them level on points at the top with Bowdon Hightown and Slough.

Canterbury produced some of their best hockey of the season in the first half but fell behind on 24 minutes when Nat Seymour conceded a penalty flick which was emphatically converted by Rachel Walker.

Canterbury's equaliser arrived from a penalty corner five minutes later as player-coach Mel Clewlow scored at the second attempt after her first shot had been blocked by a defender.

Olton's Lucilla Wright hit the woodwork in the second half but it was Canterbury who claimed the points 11 minutes from time when Tash Brennan dispossessed a visiting defender in the circle and pushed the ball to Sarah Kerly who swept home at the far post.

Maidstone beat St Albans 3-0 on home soil in the National South Division.

The game was level at half-time as Maidstone defended well to keep out the numerous short corners from the visitors.

Maidstone stepped it up after the break and took the lead from Lauren Penny’s short corner. Kirsty Hotson doubled the advantage shortly after and Penny’s second settled the match.

Sevenoaks won their League match on Saturday 2-1 against Woking. They followed that up with a 9-1 victory over Maidenhead in the EHA Cup.
