A2 closed near Dartford Heath after woman hit and killed by lorry on London bound carriageway

A woman has died after being hit by a lorry on the A2 near Dartford Heath.

Emergency crews were called to the London bound carriageway at 2.45am following the collision.

It is understood the woman had been travelling in a grey BMW which had stopped on the opposite carriageway.

The woman was declared dead at the scene and her family have been informed.

Earlier, a police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 2.45am on Saturday 12 November, to a collision involving a pedestrian on the London bound A2 close to a junction for Dartford Heath.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service have attended and the road currently remains closed."

An investigation is on going and the road heading from the M25 at Junction 2 which is the Darenth Interchange to the A2018 Old Bexley Lane at Dartford Heath was closed until about 2pm.

The coastbound carriageway reopened at around 10.15am.

Anyone who was travelling on the A2 in the early hours of this morning is being urged to check if they have dashcam footage which can be uploaded here.

A crash involving two cars also happened just prior to the closure near the A223 (Black Prince Interchange) coastbound at around 6.30am.

It led to lengthy tailbacks in the area.
