A care home in Dartford will close in the summer.

The Limes, in Brent Lane, was one of three homes run by Kent County Council earmarked for closure, with plans for others to be either sold off to the private sector or turned into sheltered accommodation.

The proposals were confirmed earlier this year even though the vast majority of the 20,000 people who took part in a public consultation were opposed to the plans.

It has now been announced that The Limes will close in August.

Graham Gibbens, KCC Cabinet member for adult social care, said: "Following the decision taken in January to close The Limes in Dartford, officers have been actively working with those who use the service to make sure that alternative services are in place.

"For day services, they have been helping these individuals to choose alternatives that meet their needs.

"Those people who will need an enablement service in the future will be referred to the Gravesham Place Integrated Care Centre.

"I am now able to announce that The Limes will close by August 10.

"This means that people will move to their new services between now and the beginning of July, to allow for the building to be emptied.

"As well as supporting day service users to make choices about their future, officers have also been offering support to staff members.

"All staff at the Limes have been offered the opportunity to apply for job opportunities elsewhere in the authority, attend training apply for similar jobs outside the council, or pursue other career paths.

"It is important that we make sure people are able to choose an alternative day service that suits them and that our hard working and professional members of staff have an opportunity to continue with their careers."
