Charlton slumped to only their second defeat of the season, losing 3-1 away at Carlisle.

Two second half strikes from veteran midfielder Graham Kavanagh proved the difference, on an afternoon when Addicks boss Phil Parkinson was sent to the stands.

The result means Charlton lose ground on leaders Leeds United and it was one of their former players who opened the scoring, four minutes before the break. Ian Harte's penalty was initially saved by on-loan keeper Carl Ikeme, but Harte followed up first to slot home the rebound.

The home side's lead was short-lived though as Deon Burton (pictured right) showed Harte how it should be done with a penalty of his own on the stroke of half time. Burton grabbed his sixth goal of the season after he was felled inside the area by Graham Kavanagh.

But Kavanagh went from villain to hero in the second half as he struck first on 63 minutes and then again nine minutes from time to make it a very long journey home for the travelling Charlton supporters.

Charlton remain second, ahead of MK Dons in third on goal difference. Leeds now have a seven-point lead at the top of the table after their 4-0 home win against Yeovil.
