Charlton and Millwall played out an eight-goal thriller in a memorable south London derby in League 1 at The Valley on Saturday.

The Addicks fell two goals behind to a Steve Morison brace, before drawing level at the break after Deon Burton scored two penalties.

Nicky Bailey put Charlton ahead early in the second half, before Dave Martin equalised for Millwall.

Morison then scored at the wrong end to put Charlton in front only for Danny Schofield to snatch a late equaliser.

Morison had put the visitors in a commanding position with two goals inside the opening half hour.

His first was a low shot from inside the penalty area after 12 minutes and was followed by a close range effort 15 minutes later.

But Burton matched Morison’s efforts with two goals of his own before the break. He grabbed his first after 31 minutes when he netted from the spot following Andy Frampton’s foul on David Mooney.

Nadjim Abdou was sent off for a professional foul to reduce the Lions to 10-men after 37 minutes, and Burton powered home the penalty to ensure the home side were level at the break.

The Addicks found themselves in front for the first time in the game two minutes into the second half when Bailey fired a shot from just inside the penalty area into the top right hand corner of the net.

Martin netted from close range for Millwalll with 10 minutes left, before the unfortunate Morison turned the ball into his own net with five minutes left.

Just when Charlton thought they had taken maximum points Schofield scored from close range two minutes into stoppage time to deny them victory.
