Last Saturday’s match against Burnley was as frustrating as they come and that’s doubly so for me because I’m not able to make any contribution.

To lose 1-0 was harsh given the way that we dominated the second half. Indeed, while their winning goal was a fantastic strike, it must have been Burnley’s only proper effort.

There was no lack of effort on our part and that’s the main thing. Things haven’t gone our way sometimes this season, particularly at home but as long as the work rate and commitment remains evident, there is hope that things will improve.

We were back on the road this week with big games at Peterborough on Tuesday and Huddersfield on Saturday.

Unfortunately, I’m still yet to return to training after suffering a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal of my left foot on loan at Swindon, although I’ve been allowed to take the protective airboot off.

This season has been one of the most frustrating of my career. An operation on the joint of my big toe set me back in the summer and although I started the season in the team, I don’t believe that I reached the standards I set last year in every game.

I found myself in and out of the team and, as any footballer will tell you, that can become frustrating.

Looking back, maybe I jumped the gun when I spoke to the manager about going out on loan. Perhaps, I should have waited but I ended up at Swindon under Paolo Di Canio.

He’s probably the most passionate manager that I’ve ever played for and his standards are high.

The first couple of weeks there were like a whirlwind and I got a little telling off in the local paper after another loan signing and I didn’t make the impact he wanted in one game when we came off the bench.

That was probably a blessing and it was a real compliment when he later declared that he would dig into his own pockets to try to keep me at the club while there was lots of uncertainty behind the scenes.

Now I’m back at Charlton, my aim is to get back into the team.

It’s the first time that I’ve been involved in the Championship and I don’t want people to feel that I can’t play at this level. I’ve got a lot of points to prove and I’m positive and hopeful I can do that.
