Co-op in New Ash Green reopens after cash machine ram raid

A Co-op which had to close after its shutters were destroyed during a ram raid has reopened this morning.

A vehicle deliberately reversed into the supermarket in The Row, New Ash Green, at around 5.20am yesterday and an attempt made to get into the cash machine on the side of the building.

The vehicle, described as a green Mitsubishi Shogun with silver bumpers and a spare wheel on the back, had gone by the time police were called.

It is believed nothing was stolen.

The Co-op was closed all of yesterday. However, temporary boarding has now been put up and it opened again at 7am today.

The raid happened just weeks after the supermarket was relaunched after a two-month makeover.

Police are appealing for CCTV and witnesses following the attempted theft.

Those living close to the crime scene and any surrounding roads are being asked to check doorbell and CCTV cameras for any relevant footage.

Drivers are also asked to review any dashcam which may help the investigation. Images and video can be uploaded here.
