Cold snap a concern for organisers of the Les Witton Dartford 10 race

Runners will be looking to the skies over north Kent on Sunday as the Les Witton Dartford 10 returns to its regular slot in the sporting calendar.

Traffic management problems forced the race to initially be postponed last year, while the 2011 event was delayed by road closures.

Now in its 12th year, the race is a January fixture once again and freezing temperatures are the only thing concerning race director Dave Behagg.

He said: "We’d have to be unlucky (with the weather). There’s probably a 90% chance the race will go ahead.

"We’ve got a plan agreed with Highways and the police and we’ve got strong marshalling plans. I’m expecting 600 runners. We need to build a little bit of trust by showing we can put on a successful event.

"I didn’t want 800 or 900 runners because I wanted to stress-test the new traffic and marshalling arrangements."

Entry fees on Sunday are £17 for affiliated runners and £19 for non-affiliated runners.

The event starts at 9.30am at Princes Park, Darenth Road.
