Darenth Road in Dartford closed at Brent Lane junction due to collapsed wall

Darenth Road has been closed at the junction with Brent Lane due to a collapsed wall.

The wall came down at around 9am this morning, with one motorist left counting his lucky stars after narrowly avoiding a nasty collision with the rubble.

Luke Westbrook was driving along the road at the time of the collapse and said the wall almost fell on top of his car.

"I was driving down Darenth Road and heard a large pop sound," he said.

"I thought I had run over something, looked in my mirror and saw a large chunk of the wall had fallen.

"It grazed the back bumper of my car, but if I was one second later it would have fallen on top of my car."

Hayley Brown was closely following Mr Westbrook's car and said he was lucky to escape unharmed.

"I was driving two cars behind Luke and saw the wall collapse," she said.

"Luke then got out of the car to assess the damage - it must have been a scary experience and Luke is very lucky he was not hurt or his car was not damaged further."

KCC Highways are urging motorists to use an alternative route and pedestrians are also advised to approach the road with caution.

You should also allow extra time for your journey.
