Delays on the Dartford tunnel approach due to overturned car

There were delays heading towards the Dartford tunnel this morning due to an overturned vehicle.

Traffic ground to a halt on the Essex-bound approach following the accident.

Recovery vehicles were sent immediately but the congestion lasted for more than an hour.

At the height of the tailbacks on the M25 the queues were up to seven miles long.

All lanes are now open but drivers were told to expect delays of 45 minutes above the usual travel time as the backlog dispersed.

It followed another incident this morning which saw traffic held due to a broken down van between junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange and junction 3 for Swanley.
