Dartford Tunnel reopens after crash

Dartford Tunnel has reopened after emergency services dealt with a crash, which left one man trapped in his vehicle.

Both lanes of the tunnel on the A282 leading from Kent into Essex were shut after a lorry and a car collided.

Police said the road reopened at 11.36am, but tailbacks of several miles remain.

Emergency services were called to the the Essex side of the River Thames, just outside the tunnel, at 9.40am after a lorry and a Vauxhall Insignia collided.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene, close to junction 31 of the M25, for Lakeside, and said one man was trapped in his vehicle.

He was released from the vehicle at about 11.10am.

East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered arm and side pain and was taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital.

Traffic built up in the area and police said delays are expected while the tailbacks clear.

Kent Police said the incident is being dealt with by Essex Police and they have been approached for more information.
