Southfleet: Two hay bale fires

Firefighters are continuing to tackle a hay bale blaze which has been burning for more than 40 hours.

Crews from across north Kent are taking it in turns to man the fire at a farm in Southfleet where 400 hay bales were engulfed in flames.

They were first called to the scene, off Park Corner Road, at 4pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said there are about 400 bales alight. The fire could be seen from the A2.

Crews have been allowing the fire to ‘burn out’ while keeping it under control and stopping it from spreading.

They hope to pass it over to the care of the landowner today (Tuesday).

There are no reported injuries.

Crews were also called to a large hay bale fire in Hook Green Road, Southfleet, on Sunday afternoon but this has now been left in the hands of the landowner.

The causes of both fires are not yet known.
