FAMILIES were evacuated from a block of flats in Dartford following a gas leak on Sunday night.

The 70 evacuees of Phoenix Place spent the night at Fairfield Pool Leisure Centre in nearby Lowfield Street while Transco fixed the pipe.

Residents from nearby flats in the street were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Transco were alerted to the leak at about 6.50pm on Sunday. North Kent Police officers and Dartford firefighters also went to the scene.
