It has also stopped children visiting the department, which means siblings cannot visit their new little brothers and sisters.

A post on the hospital trust's Facebook page said: "To ensure that our mothers and babies are protected and kept as safe as possible during the coronavirus pandemic, we are restricting visiting to our Maternity Unit.

"Only one person can accompany/stay/visit per mum, this can be a partner, family member or designated birthing partner - no swapping. This MUST remain the same person.

"Children (including siblings) are not allowed to visit the Maternity Unit until further notice.

"Thank you for your understanding."
