M25 road rage killer Kenneth Noye has said he is "not a danger" to his victim's girlfriend, following his release from prison.

Freed in 2019, Noye spent almost 19 years behind bars for the murder of 21-year-old Stephen Cameron on an M25 slip road in Swanley in 1996.

Stephen's then girlfriend Danielle Cable was subsequently forced to take on a new identity, after giving evidence against her boyfriend's killer.

But now aged 75, Noye has spoken out in a new book by Donal MacIntyre and Karl Howman, stating he poses no risk to her, and never did, the Mirror has reported.

“She is at no risk from me. I would be happy to assure her of that... It should never have happened,” said Noye. “As I walk free, so should she.”

Published by Mirror Books, the book comes on the back of TV drama series The Gold, which follows the 1983 £26 million Brink's-Mat bullion heist Noye was involved in.

As part of its release he also agreed to sit down after 40 years with the man who brought him to justice over Brink’s-Mat, former Detective Superintendent Ian Brown.

Having been convicted and jailed for handling some of the gold, Noye had been out on licence in 1996, when he stabbed Stephen twice, in the heart and liver, during a confrontation on the M25.

The trial heard Noye had been on his way to a gathering at a pub when he was cut up by the red van Danielle was driving, sparking a fight on the slip road.

Having fled the country, Noye was tracked down to Barbate, Spain, and Danielle travelled there with police to identify him in a restaurant.

Now Noye reportedly says in the new book: “She gave honest evidence at the trial. I have no issue with her. I am truly sorry for her loss and I am glad she has moved on with her life. She may not believe me but I do want to say this, I am not a danger to her in any respect.

“I was never a danger to her and there was never a million-pound price on her head, as the police suggested. She should be able to fully enjoy her family and friends because there are no threats to her from me – there never was.

“I am devastated at Stephen’s death and the circumstances around it.”

But Stephen’s family continue to live under the shadow of his loss, with parents Ken and Toni having spent the rest of their lives trying to keep Noye behind bars, and Danielle continuing to live under an assumed identity.

Prior to Stephen's murder, Noye had been cleared of the murder of undercover police officer DC John Fordham, who he stabbed 10 times in 1985 after finding him in the grounds of his 20-acre estate in West Kingsdown.

The officer was keeping a watch on Noye as part of the Brink's-Mat investigation, but Noye was cleared on the grounds of self defence.
