Dartford's HRVY earns top spot on Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard for second week

A YouTube star and singer from Kent taking part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing has earned a spot at the top of the leaderboard for the second week running.

Harvey Cantwell, better known as HRVY , took to the dance floor with partner Janette Manrara, this time wowing the judges with a Viennese Waltz.

The 21-year-old from Hartley - who used to go to Dartford's Leigh Academy - scored a total of 24 points.

Combined with last weeks score, HRVY is joint top of the leaderboard with 49 points alongside EastEnders star Maisie Smith and her partner Gorka Márquez.

The pop star, who has performed in front of sold out shows with the likes of Little Mix and The Vamps, admitted he found the switch from the energetic jive last week to the stripped back ballroom dance 'really difficult'.

But the judges were still impressed as Motsi Mabuse who described HRVY's jive as 'the best first dance ever' was equally as moved this week.

After scoring him an impressive nine she said: "You came with a whole different type of energy.

"You are a diamond in the sky, I'm enjoying everything you're doing on this show so keep it up."

Although hard to impress Craig Revel Horwood called the performance 'a little bit erratic', he scored HRVY a seven after complimenting his standing spin as 'absolutely on it'.

Head judge Shirley Ballas gave HRVY an eight saying: "Although I agree with Craig, you could look like a professional ballroom dancer by the time you are finished if you work hard, you just need to put the jigsaw puzzle pieces together."

Despite the compliments, perhaps the stand out moment of the night for HRVY was a video message from his Grandmother Joyce who is his biggest supporter.

She shared how proud of him she was in an emotional tribute which made him tear up during his interview with Claudia Winkleman after the performance.

Last week HRVY told KentOnline nerves nearly got the better of him on the night and he even asked the show's producers if he could perform anywhere but last on the billing.

However, he soon sprung into action and was met with unanimous approval by the judges and his fans.

During tonight's show, the first couple will leave the competition.

The two couples with the lowest combined judges scores and viewers' votes will go head to head in the first dance off of the series.

Strictly Come Dancing will be on BBC one at 7:10pm this evening.
