Traffic chaos around Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe as police attend incident

There was gridlock after police closed off a major road near Bluewater for several hours.

Vehicles were stopped from entering the Greenhithe shopping centre from the A2 while emergency services dealt with a medical incident near the bus garage and Marks & Spencer car park.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 1.25pm to a concern for the welfare of a person.”

The fire brigade also attended and left the scene just after 3.15pm.

Traffic was building up coast-bound on the A2 towards the M25 while the road was closed between 1.35pm and 3.55pm.

Passengers taking the 700 bus from Chatham to Bluewater were warned to expect delays following the gridlock.

It is understood the person involved was passed into the care of healthcare professionals.

Bluewater Shopping Centre has been contacted for a comment.
