Dartford Tunnel closures delayed again

The planned closure of the Dartford Crossing this weekend is not going ahead.

National Highways had advised road users planning to use the Dartford Crossing on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings in October to leave extra time for their journeys as a number of overnight closures were set to take place.

To allow for waterproofing repair work to be carried out between junction 31 and 30 on the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway, the east tunnel and one lane of the west tunnel was to be shut for overnight work on three Saturdays.

The first closure was set to take place from 8pm this Saturday (October 7) until 10am on Sunday (October 8) and then for the same times on Saturday, October 21 and Saturday, October 28.

But today, National Highways confirmed the works will not be taking place this weekend and the tunnel will be open as usual.

Amelia Yeodal, National Highways Team Leader Operations South East, said: "We have cancelled the planned closure of the Dartford east tunnel and one lane of the west tunnel on Saturday evening to give ourselves more time to prepare for the works.

“This decision was taken in consultation with stakeholders and will allow road users to use the Dartford Crossing throughout the weekend.

“The bridge waterproofing and resurfacing works will be rescheduled at a later date, which will be announced once agreed."
