Charlton Athletic sack interim head coach Karel Fraeye

Charlton have sacked interim head coach Karel Fraeye.

Fraeye leaves the club sitting second-bottom in the Championship and out of the FA Cup after Saturday's humbling at the hands of League 1 strugglers Colchester.

Charlton were thrashed 5-0 at Huddersfield on Tuesday night and that proved to be the Belgian's final match in charge.

A statement said: "The club would like to place on record its thanks to Karel for his tireless work and the many positive contributions he made to the wider football setup at Charlton."

Fraeye arrived at The Valley in October, taking over from sacked coach Guy Luzon.

He won just two of his 14 games in charge, losing eight and drawing four.

Fraeye's assistant Wim de Corte has been put in temporary charge for Charlton's trip to Hull on Saturday and he will be assisted by youth coach and former player Jason Euell.
