Dartford boss Tony Burman praised his team’s character after they reached the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night.

The Darts won their replay at Oxford City despite falling behind to an early goal, prompting Burman to promote the virtues of a team ethic.

“There was a determination about our play that showed we wanted to see the job through,” he said. “I think we learnt our lessons from the first game, although we did concede goals from set pieces then.

“We’re trying to improve, regardless of what team we have to pick, and if we feel we have to play certain people in different positions then we will. As long as the players understand that then we’ll be fine.”

Goals from Cody McDonald (2), Steve Butterworth and Lee Noble put the Darts 4-1 ahead, and on the way to a trip to St Albans in the next round, before Oxford claimed a late consolation from the penalty spot.
