Chris Eagles marked his first start for Charlton with the opening goal against his former club as the Addicks won 3-0 at Blackpool on Tuesday night.

Guy Luzon’s side hardly needed to get out of second gear as they sent the Seasiders sliding nearer to the Championship's relegation trapdoor for a sixth victory in eight games.

And it was just the result Addicks’ fans were hoping for after the disappointment of last Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat by Blackburn.

Eagles marked his return to Bloomfield Road by tapping home a loose ball on 31 minutes after Blackpool keeper Joe Lewis had parried a shot from Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

Although Blackpool made a bright start to the second half, the Addicks took command of the game with a second goal just past the hour. Gudmundsson played a clever ball into the feet of Simon Church who rifled home his first goal of the season from eight yards.

Blackpool substitute Bright Osayi-Samuel did test the reflexes of Addicks keeper Stephen Henderson in the closing stages, but the impressive Gudmunsson fittingly had the final word two minutes from time.

After substitute Christophe Lepoint was fouled on the edge the area the Icelander curled home his ninth goal of the season from the free kick.

The victory lifted the Addicks into 11th place ahead of the visit of FA Cup semi-finalists Reading to The Valley on Saturday.
