Soccer league to celebrate 40th birthday

THE North Kent Sunday Football League will turn the clock back when they celebrate 40 years at their annual presentation dinner on Saturday, June 8.

The league have invited back a host of former officials to the function at the Beauwater Leisure Club, including Football Association director and Kent County FA chairman Barry Bright.

Mr Bright worked for the league as registration secretary between 1970-72; fixtures secretary (1972-76); match result secretary (1972-78) and chairman (1978-84).

Barry Bundock, the league’s only other general secretary (1962-84) will also be attending as will Colin Boswell, secretary of the Medway Today Sunday Football League.

Mr Boswell, a founder member of the North Kent Sunday League, was the competition’s referees’ secretary from 1962 to 1970.

Joining them will be Cyril Windiate, the league’s assistant secretary from 1968 to 1971; vice-chairman (1971-72) and chairman (1972-78) plus Les Eyers, who was league referees’ secretary (1970-77).

“We’re delighted that so many of the league’s former officials have accepted invitations to come back and we’re looking forward to seeing them all,” said league chief executive John Robinson.
