Anne Wheble has won the 2008 Kent Ladies Championship, played at Knole Park, Sevenoaks.

It is the second county title for the 32-year-old from Dartford Golf Club and this year she beat Aldridge, from Sundridge Park, 4&2.

Having first won the title at Chart Hills in 2005, two-handicapper Wheble drew on all her experience to fight back in the 18-hole final, having found herself three down after just four holes.

She said: “It was a bit nerve-racking but I am often a slow starter so I didn’t worry too much.

“The win is particularly satisfying as I was not playing that well going into the event. I had not practiced very much and so my expectations weren’t very high, but perhaps that helped.”

Wheble is now looking forward to the English Amateur Championship at Ganton, Yorkshire, starting May 13.
