Welling have further bolstered their striking ranks following the capture of striker Joe Healy from Fisher.

The 21-year-old forward, who joined the Wings on Tuesday, began his career at Millwall and has had loan spells at Crawley and Hayes & Yeading.

Healy made three Championship appearances for the Lions under former boss Dennis Wise and he also featured in the League and FA Cups for the South Londoners, most notably in a 3-0 third round defeat to Liverpool at the New Den in 2004.

Healy arrives at Park View Road not long after the acquisition of another young forward, Charlie Sheringham.

“We've had Joe in for pre-season and he’s looked very good and settled down quickly,” said Wings boss Andy Ford, who also revealed Healy’s signing owed a lot to his assistant Jimmy Dack, who worked with Healy at Fisher.

“He’s young, has a good touch and with Joe and Charlie both arriving at the club in a short space of time I feel we’re looking good up top for next season.”

Welling’s latest signing coincided with the publishing of the Blue Square South fixtures for 2008-09.

Wings travel to Bath on the opening day on August 9 before consecutive home games against Braintree and Basingstoke.

“Bath away is obviously a tough start for us,” said Ford. “They’re always very well organised and we lost there last season.

“It would have been nice to kick off with a game in front of our home fans but we’ll be looking forward to those home games against Braintree and Basingstoke.”

Ford also picked out a Christmas holiday period that sees Welling play back-to-back games against rivals Bromley on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

“That’s obviously something that catches the eye,” he said. “With Mark Goldberg’s return, Bromley are going to be there or thereabouts next season.

“They’ve already signed some good players and I’m they’ll be two tough games for us.”
