Dover Athletic manager Nicky Forster says Whites will work hard to break down teams at Crabble

Nicky Forster is determined to sort out Dover’s home form after Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat by Chelmsford City extended their winless run at Crabble to eight games.

The sequence – which includes four matches at the end of last season – is a concern for manager Forster (pictured), who is all too aware of the big expectations at Dover.

He said: “We haven’t won at home for eight games now. We’ve drawn too many and ultimately that cost the previous manager (Martin Hayes) his job.

“It’s up to me to try to improve it.”

Chelmsford, like most visiting sides, set up to frustrate Forster’s men, and he said: "It’s a concern and we have to work hard in training on breaking teams down.

“We could sit back ourselves and look to draw teams out but what can happen is both teams end up sitting back and you finish 0-0.

“I’m not convinced our fans want to see us playing like that at home.”

The Chelmsford defeat was Dover’s first of the season.

Whites - who superbly beat title favourites Eastleigh 3-1 on Saturday - take on Hayes & Yeading at Crabble on Saturday and could be without three strikers.

Terry Dixon (groin) definitely misses out, while Ben May (back) and Calum Willock (calf) are doubts.

Forster said: “It’s a chance to bounce back and get that first home win. We’ve got another tough batch of games coming up and need to be in and around the top five or six after 12 matches.”
