East Kent escapes flooding threat

Dover, Deal and Sandwich escaped any serious flooding on Sunday, February 28, as heavy rain and strong winds swept across the area.

The stormy weather coincided with high tides, but with the wind blowing off-shore seas remained moderate.

The Environment Agency had issued flood warnings and flood watch alerts for much of southern and eastern England.

There were fears that with the ground already saturated from weeks of rain and snow, the rain could have caused flooding in low-lying and other vulnerable areas.

There was minor flooding on some roads in Dover, but fire crews did not receive any calls for assistance.
