Ripple’s annual bonfire and fireworks night will also be opposite the village hall in Church Lane tonight.

There will be a Guy competition for children with prizes for the best Guy, sponsored by Ripplevale School.

Judging will take place at the village hall at 6.30pm, where there will also be refreshments.

The fireworks will start at 7pm.

The event is free to attend and all are welcome.

As reported in last week’s Mercury, Deal & Betteshanger Rugby Club is not holding a fireworks display this year.

The club’s honorary secretary David Donachie said the concern was that it is too difficult to raise a profit, which is used for the club’s youth section.
