Dover manager Martin Hayes has completed his strikeforce for the new season by signing ex-Southend, Gillingham and Leyton Orient frontman James Walker.

The 23-year-old former Charlton trainee, who has also spent time on loan at several League clubs, impressed Hayes during Whites’ 2-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet on Saturday when he was one of four triallists in the Dover line-up.

Hayes said: "James has never quite made it at a League club and he became disillusioned and drifted around a bit but I am happy he has agreed to join us.

"He is hard-working and a goalscorer, and it means we’ve got four good strikers now. Also it didn’t do Adam Birchall any harm taking a step down out of the League for a while."

Hayes confirmed he will not be pursuing his interest, at least for the time being, in Saturday’s three other triallists, midfielder Craig Edwards, centre-half Jeremy Nimanani and striker Gavin Marsh.

He added: "I would maybe like to bring in one more defender but otherwise we are pretty much covered in every position now."
