Martin Hayes wants Dover Athletic to be more clinical

Manager Martin Hayes insists Dover Athletic aren’t doing a lot wrong at the moment – and one defeat in eight matches would seem to justify that claim.

But what Whites aren’t doing is scoring enough goals, with last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Basingstoke the third time in their last four games that Hayes’ side had failed to register.

The Dover boss (pictured) wants more composure in front of goal and said: "In Saturday’s game and in the Tonbridge (home) match before it, we played well, created chances but just couldn’t finish them off.

"We could have won by two or three goals on Saturday so we know we’re not doing a lot wrong but we just need someone to be a bit more clinical in front of goal.

"It’s frustrating but I would be more worried if we weren’t creating any chances."

One player who may help to solve Dover’s striking problems, Donovan Simmons, could be back in the squad at Woking after being sidelined for the past few weeks with a stiff back.

Tom Wynter also had to come off against Basingstoke with a back problem but Hayes is hopeful the left-back will have recovered by the weekend.
