Police dispersed more than 50 boozed-up teenagers when a party advertised on Facebook got out of control.

The event in Cheriton was apparently gate-crashed after youngsters heard about it from text messages and the net.

The 17-year-old girl who organised it claimed she'd only invited 20 close friends - but more than double that turned up.

Officers were called at around 10pm last Friday to make the building safe after complaints from neighbours.

It took two hours to bring the situation under control.

Four 15-year-old girls who were heavily intoxicated and incapable had to be escorted home.

And booze worth £160 was seized from the party-goers.

Shepway Licensing Officer PC Chris Stephens said: "This highlights the importance of adult supervision of private parties and more importantly supervision of alcohol consumption by under 18s.

"Girls becoming heavily intoxicated beyond personal control, fighting, noise, damage being caused and items being stolen are just typical consequences of a party losing control.

"This party has taken more than six police officers to clear up the problems, with drunken youths still being dispersed from the area up until midnight."
