DOVER’S Regatta is back, bigger and better than ever.

The weekend of events on land and sea start tomorrow and extra events have been scheduled to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Dover Harbour Board.

Events take place on the seafront and include a display by the world famous Red Arrows, displays from the RAF Falcons parachute team and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Animal lovers will not want to miss displays from a team of Newfoundland dogs. They will be at the Regatta on both days.

Events on Saturday include an impressive air and sea rescue display by the RNLI with helicopter and lifeboat co-ordination in the harbour at 1pm. This will be followed by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, featuring a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster bomber over the White Cliffs.

Saturday also sees dragon boat racing along the Prince of Wales pier and close rivalry is expected between the 18 local teams. Dinghy and yacht taster sessions also take place, and Saturday night at 9.30 sees a spectacular firework display launched from the beach.

Sunday sees the Red Arrows roar over the harbour at 1pm. They will fly low over the harbour in a stunning display lasting for 23 minutes.

This is followed by the RAF Falcons parachute team dropping on to the beach and a further display from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. After that the Lord Warden will take a review of the fleet.

On both days, K-Class powerboat racing will be taking place.

There is family fun on land too. Craft stalls, demonstrations and workshops, amusements and the French market will be along the promenade and helicopter flights will be available around the harbour. Live music comes courtesy of some of the best local talent.

The only thing organisers cannot arrange is the weather, so they are praying for fine weather, especially as the Regatta concludes on Sunday with a Songs of Praise service.
