P&O will close the evening airing some of the repertoire they are due to perform at Leeds Castle on July 12 in front of an audience of around 10,000.

The London festival is the first of its kind and is set to feature community and youth choruses, workplace choirs and professional ensembles.

A spokesman for the festival’s committee said: “Singing with others is so inspiring and a brilliant way to relieve stress.

“There are some amazingly talented people taking part – audiences are in for a real treat.”

A choral composition contest will also take place, adjudicated by composer Judith Weir and Stephen Jackson, director of the BBC Symphony Chorus.

Other highlights include The London Youth Choirs and chamber choir Blossom Street.
